breaking my "no posting" rule

but it's easier to do this once to answer some questions I got all morning:

I'm on my company softball team, and last night, during warmups, I took a pitch straight to my beauty mark, breaking my cheekbone/orbital in three places. I'm okay, just real sore. It's not my jaw, so I'm not rockin' a grill, but I am riding some painkillers for a bit and sporting a bitchin' shiner. I have a whole new level of respect for guys like Shalrie, McBride*, Conrad, Demps, and all the others who've finished games with facial fractures.

I kept thinking last night makeup should take care of this, but then I tried to wash my face, and that just wasn't happening. Turns out you can feel vibrations in your face when you walk, bend to tie your shoes, etc. That's not something I wanted to learn the hard way, but here we are. Lifetime confirmed fracture count is now 4.

Jokes already made:

Bar fight

Domestic violence/"I walked into a door"

Run-in with Blanco

*I did sneeze while in the hospital waiting room, but, while painful, this did not cause my eyeball to pop out

spare change

I don't usually do this, but:

Next week I'm doing the Jimmy Fund walk for cancer research, and I've gotta pass the hat for donations. I'm going to do the entire 26.2 mile Boston Marathon route, because it is fun to be a tough guy for charity. If you've spent any time around New England--or if you're watching Sox games on MLB Extra Innings--you know how big a deal the Jimmy Fund is for cancer research and treatment. If you know someone with cancer, if you don't know someone with cancer, every little bit helps.

So if you've got some coin to spare, click here to donate. As always, donations made under phony names/in honor of silly things are encouraged.

thanks!
